Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer Product Review

The Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer truly is every baker’s dream, whether they’re amateurs or professionals. Even if your not a baker, even as homemaker, the Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer is the most coveted piece of countertop eye candy.  I recently acquired a Candy Apple Red, Kitchen Aid Tilt Head Stand Mixer, 4.8L , 185 series. The Candy Apple Red is the most popular, most iconic and best-selling color, globally.  I’ll elaborate later on the difference between 185 series, 175 Series, Classic and P2 ranges.

As described on the Tavola website (and quite accurately so), ‘With its high quality craftsmanship and timeless design, KitchenAid’s iconic stand mixer is perfect for household and commercial kitchens. This culinary powerhouse features a tilting head for easy access, 10 speed settings for everything from ultra-fast whipping to slow mixing, and versatile accessories that handle everything from mixing heavy cake batters, kneading dough to whipping light and fluffy egg whites. Made of die-cast metal and stainless steel, this robust stand mixer will serve you for years to come.’

Below are the details on the Kitchen Aid Candy Apple Red Tilt Head Stand Mixer in Candy Apple Red I have and have lovingly dubbed ‘Dorothy’ because it’s sparkly red color reminds me of The Wizard of Oz and Dorothy’s red shoes:

Are all Kitchen Aid Stand Mixers the same? No. There are various different models, and they’re not all created equal. The main differences are as follows:

  • Classic Series: only has 2 colour options, 1 4.3 L bowl, 1 aluminum whisk, 1 coated aluminum beater, 1 coated aluminum dough hook, no splash shield.
  • P2 Series:4 colour options, 1 bowl, 1 aluminum whisk, 1 coated aluminum beater, 1 coated aluminum dough hook, splash shield. The aluminum whisk is not dishwasher safe, and visually the P2 series looks a little unrefined compared to the Classic and Artisan series. Fair enough though, as the price is substantially lower for this model.
  • Artisan: 16 color options.
    • 175 Series: 2 bowls (one is 3L and one is 4.8L),  1 aluminum whisk, 1 coated aluminum beater, 1 coated aluminum dough hook, silicon scraper, splash shield. The aluminum accessories are not suitable for dishwashers as they discolor.
    • 185 Series: 2 bowls (one is 3L and one is 4.8L), stainless steel whisk, stainless steel beater, stainless steel dough hook, splash shield. The stainless steel accessories are dishwasher safe, which to me is a major plus point and worth spending a bit extra on, as a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer is a very long-term investment.

Even Tech Gear Lab votes for The Artisan as the best of all Kitchen Aid Stand Mixers, by far, and I highly recommend it.
